It's a way to make things more "real," where there are a huge variety of other variables which would be impossible to code, so they add a small random coefficient to the base forumula to simulate "reality." But the primary determining factor for whether or not a gun will hit is based on it's tracking speed, the target ships size, distance, and relative motion. CCP then introduces a small bit of randomness so you sometimes hit for less, or hit a little harder. The "chance to hit" is based on the gun's tracking speed, the target's resolution, and relative motion and distance (this is where falloff ranges come into play). As long as it is within optimal range, it will hit regardless of the ships signature and the gun's resolution, with a small bit of randomness added for effect. There is no need to compare a gun's tracking speed to a ship's signature radius if both are stationary. The gun's signature resolution is based on a benchmark signature radius - a ship size used to establish a standard baseline of how fast your turrets can track.īut this only comes into play with a moving ship that requires the gun to track it's target. Guns have a signature resolution, which is basically the default signature radius used to establish their base tracking speed. Ships have a signature radius - that's their hitbox. And the majority of the cruisers flown in RvB have a sig of 125+ I don't think you are getting the gains you are thinking. Since most of us conceptualize the game around an understanding of our ships as objects in space, and not just as mathematical formula, I think it's worth trying to understand what CCP is simulating.Ĭhance to hit doesn't increase above 100% based of the sig, and since medium guns usually have a sig around 100-125. But understanding and describing what it's trying to simulate, in terms of internet spaceships, is a bit more difficult. The actual formula that CCP uses to determine whether or not you land a hit is pretty straight forward. It's probably one of the more complicated ideas, especially for newer players.
